Grid connection is becoming a crucial area where both utility providers and private investors/developers are seeking specialised expertise in grid connection and network planning — from the early feasibility phase through to commissioning and compliance monitoring during operations.

Our team is actively engaged in utility-scale renewable energy projects across the UK and Ireland, supporting both development and construction phases. It’s a great time to be part of this journey!

Here’s what you’ll do:

• Conduct detailed power system and grid code compliance studies using tools such as PowerFactory, PSCAD, and PSS/E.
• Perform grid connection due diligence, including grid prospecting, connection option assessment, risk evaluation, and capacity/constraint analysis.
• Carry out power system studies for industrial projects (e.g., water treatment plants).
• Support electrical design delivery through analytical and modelling studies.
• Lead and manage medium- to large-scale projects, ensuring high technical standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Contribute to business process improvement initiatives within the team.
• Prepare and support technical bids and proposals.
• Liaise with OEMs and clients to ensure delivery of robust technical outcomes.

Qualifications

We’re looking for a candidate who brings:

• Proven professional experience in an Engineering Design Consultancy, OEM, or Utility Network Planning environment.
• A solid understanding of transmission and distribution planning and customer connection processes for both regulated and industrial networks.
• Strong knowledge of UK technical standards — UK Grid Code, G99, G5/5, P28 — and familiarity with Irish Grid Code (advantageous).
• Proficiency in PSCAD, PowerFactory, and Python scripting.
• Experience with PSSE or ETAP (desirable).
• Strong grasp of control and protection principles for high-voltage substation equipment, transmission lines, transformers, generators, and reactive equipment.
• Basic understanding of power electronics and control systems in renewable energy applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable experience:

• Experience conducting and reviewing comprehensive compliance studies, including steady-state, harmonic/power quality, dynamic, and sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) analyses.
• Familiarity with NESO / DNO / TO compliance review processes and the ability to apply power systems theory to address compliance challenges.
