Job description

As an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer at Damen Naval, you play a pivotal role in ensuring our advanced naval vessels are designed, built, and commissioned with power and cable systems that fully comply with strict regulations and operational requirements. Depending on the vessel’s configuration, your design work will include EMC-compliant power distribution systems for strategic defensive and deterrent systems—even under the most demanding operational conditions.

You will work according to the V-model within our 3DExperience engineering environment, ensuring that both basic and detailed designs are thoroughly reviewed, tested, and verified during the design and production phases. The highlight of your work? The launch of a new naval vessel, ready to defend freedom worldwide.

Key Accountabilities

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Contributing to functional descriptions, drawings, and other basic design documents for power distribution, lighting, and other electrical systems.
• Participating in the ship’s Integrated Topside Design (ITD) to ensure all military equipment operates correctly.
• Ensuring compliance with Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) requirements, one of the most critical aspects of naval ship design.
• Preparing detailed test and validation plans to guarantee compliance with Class regulations and customer requirements during virtual tests (simulations) and practical trials (FAT, HAT, SAT).
• Managing suppliers and subcontractors to ensure their designs meet strict EMC requirements.
• Reviewing vendor and subcontractor designs and supporting their integration into the ship’s electrical architecture.
• Developing and maintaining standards and working methods for engineering and commissioning.
• Supporting proposal and quotation stages to integrate EMC requirements into conceptual designs.
• Providing technical support and participating in commissioning activities as required.

Skills & Experience

We are seeking candidates who meet the following requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in designing complex electrical systems, including large-scale power distribution systems, preferably in maritime, offshore, or industrial sectors.
• Experience designing EMC-compliant solutions; knowledge of TEMPEST regulations is a strong advantage.
• Professional experience working on complex, multidisciplinary projects involving multiple suppliers and subcontractors.
• Experience working in a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) environment according to the V-model.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Excellent references; a security screening will be part of the recruitment process.
• Permanent EU nationality is required due to the military nature of the projects.
