Senior Electrical Engineer – Substation Design (UK Wide) NEW

Join AECOM’s Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team and play a vital role in shaping the future of energy infrastructure. Our department delivers project management, design, and owners’ engineer services for electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltages — both in the UK and globally. We focus on large-scale grid infrastructure, grid connections, and private networks, working on projects that drive the energy transition.

What You’ll Do

• Develop primary plant layouts for HV substations.
• Prepare equipment specifications for HV plant and associated equipment.
• Provide engineering design input to major infrastructure projects.
• Act as Owner’s Engineer on HV substation, cable, and overhead line (OHL) projects.
• Deliver HV design input to renewable energy projects including battery storage, solar, hydro, and wind generation.
• Provide professional engineering services to clients across the UK, Ireland, and internationally.

What We’re Looking For

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Proven experience in High Voltage design projects.
• Background working with major utilities or developers.
• Experience as a designer or project engineer in the HV sector.
• Strong technical knowledge in substation control systems, transformers, GIS, and AIS switchgear.
• Ability to manage multiple projects flexibly and effectively.
• Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
• Fluency in English (written and spoken).
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (site visits required).

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience in multi-discipline engineering projects.
• Chartered Engineer status (or working toward it).
• Consultancy experience within the energy or infrastructure sector.
• Experience reviewing detailed designs and witnessing construction site activities.
