Job description

We are seeking an ITS consultant to join our Assets Consulting team. In this role, you will contribute to the delivery of IST-related projects working closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

Arup’s Assets Consulting team delivers smarter, more sustainable infrastructure solutions across Ireland and beyond. Our team of approximately 35 specialists brings together expertise in civil and electronic engineering, software and web development, technical project management, and transport advisory. We work with clients, primarily in the transport sector, to achieve operational and strategic objectives by managing, operating, maintaining, renewing, and enhancing large infrastructure assets. Our services span strategy development, planning, design, and implementation, as well as supporting maintenance contract management for transportation and digital systems. Our work addresses challenges in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), tolling, road user charging, smart cities, traffic signal design, C-ITS, and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs). We also advise on pricing and payments, data-sharing platforms, future mobility planning, and electromobility.

Based within Arup Ireland’s 100-person Advisory and Digital Services group, we collaborate with clients locally and internationally, combining deep technical expertise with a passion for solving complex challenges. As an ITS Consultant, you will contribute to projects that blend engineering, technology, and human-centered design, helping clients interpret complex data and deliver impactful transport solutions that shape communities and improve lives.

As an Intelligent Transport Systems Consultant at Arup, you will:

• Contribute to Intelligent Mobility projects that deliver high quality pragmatic advice and solutions to Arup’s broad range of Clients and technical challenges. 
• Utilize technology to provide solutions to transportation consulting projects with a range of clients.  
• Communicate effectively in written and verbal presentation formats to both internal and external clients. 
• Developing and enhancing relationships through project delivery. 
• Work effectively with data and contribute to design of innovative solutions for clients nationally and globally. 
• Test project objectives, assumptions, and proposed activities against stated goals. 
• Deliver projects at various stages of development, including design, implementation, testing, commissioning, and operations/maintenance. 
• Engage stakeholders (including clients) and manage communications. 
• Undertake focused research and produce summary findings. 
• Participate in and support the wider development of the team. 
• Support project leaders on completion of projects’ planning and delivery. 
• Other Ad-hoc queries, analysis, training, and project tasks as required. 
• Supporting the delivery of other projects in the areas of Mobility Pricing and Intelligent Mobility.

• Minimum of 4-5 years’ experience in transport projects
• Level 8 or above qualifications in a relevant discipline, including but not limited to: 
  • Civil or Transport Engineering
  • Transport or town planning 
  • Intelligent Transport Systems
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Telecommunications
  • Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Mechatronic Engineering 
• Technical experience or demonstrated interest in one of the following areas: Intelligent Transport Systems, electronic tolling, transportation, intelligent mobility, and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles. 
• Prior experience working in a consultancy environment is desirable. 
• Experience in one or more of planning, design, procurement or operations. 
• You have excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. 
• Solid planning, analytical and organization skills 
• Strong numerical and IT skills  
• Systems integration knowledge and experience a positive. 
• Ability to work independently as well as in a large multi-disciplinary team.
