To support the growth of the Arup Energy Business in the UKIMEA region, we are pleased to offer the opportunity for aspiring leaders to join our growing HV Networks team as Technical Lead.
Arup’s HV Networks team in the UK consists of power systems professionals working from Arup offices across Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Newcastle. The team provides multi-disciplinary design and advisory services to electricity utilities, renewable energy developers, local authorities, and industrial facilities across the globe.
The position will be based in Arup’s Manchester office and will be integrated within a vertically aligned Energy, Water and Resources Group in our Midlands, West and Wales Sub-region. Reporting to the HV Networks Team Lead, the Technical Lead will provide technical leadership to the team, and support growth through project delivery and business development. The UK HV Networks team work closely with colleagues across the wider UKIMEA region as well as other regions, globally.
The key responsibilities for this role include providing technical leadership and upholding high technical standards to ensure that Arup remains a provider of choice through its specialist expertise. The role also involves supporting the achievement of business targets for the HV Networks team, and by extension, the wider Energy team. Maintaining team motivation and promoting Arup’s values are essential, along with managing and planning team resources and workload to ensure strong utilisation and a diverse range of projects.
Additionally, the position includes acting as Line Manager for team members—setting objectives, agreeing on development targets, conducting performance appraisals, and handling day-to-day personnel matters. Finally, the role requires assuming Project Manager responsibilities for Power Systems projects, ensuring successful delivery in terms of budget, schedule, and quality, in full compliance with Arup Management System processes.
Furthermore, you will contribute to strategy and the setting of targets in the Group Business Plan and devise the operating plan to achieve targets along with supporting growth of a diverse range of skills and capabilities within the team through recruitment, training and strategic recruitment to meet evolving client demand.
The role may involve travel within the UK and internationally to fulfil project commitments.
Is this role right for you?
The successful candidate will lead the delivery of specialist Power Systems tasks within multi-disciplinary projects, reviewing models and reports prepared by team members while providing expert technical input to advisory projects.
We are looking for candidates holding a PhD, Masters or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering /Electrical Power Systems or similar; Chartered Engineer status with the IET or other equivalent professional bodies.
