Specialist Engineer – Shipbuilding Projects

As a Specialist Engineer at Damen Naval, you will ensure the technical verification, adaptation, and coordination of execution documentation for shipbuilding projects. You will collaborate closely with internal departments and external design offices to guarantee the quality, feasibility, and accuracy of project documentation before and during production.

This role combines office-based responsibilities with field activities, including on-board and dockside support, to provide technical assistance and ensure alignment between design and execution.

Key Accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

• Verify the accuracy and feasibility of execution documentation provided by design companies
• Adapt and process technical documentation received from external sources according to Damen standards
• Prepare and update project drawing lists and material take-off (MTO) lists for pipes and fittings
• Produce sketches and drawings to clarify or complete received documentation using AutoCAD/DraftSight
• Coordinate the technical project team and ensure effective communication between design, production, and other departments
• Provide technical assistance to production departments for problem-solving and clarification of design issues
• Use specialized software such as SpoolFab, Nupas-Cadmatic, 3DExperience, ERP systems, and MS Office to manage project data
• Ensure proper document control, registration, and distribution in line with Damen quality procedures
• Maintain and securely store all project documentation on company servers and within the ERP system
• Contribute to continuous improvement of production processes through feedback, corrective actions, and proactive technical solutions
• Liaise with classification societies, subcontractors, and clients as required
• Ensure compliance with internal regulations on Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental Protection

Skills & Experience
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

• University degree in Engineering, preferably in Shipbuilding or another technical field
• Relevant professional experience in a technical role within shipbuilding or other complex industrial projects
• Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP), MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), AutoCAD/DraftSight, and SpoolFab
• Good understanding of shipyard production processes, technical documentation, and material flow
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach
• Intermediate English proficiency (written and spoken)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
• Flexibility, adaptability to changing tasks, and a proactive attitude
