Mechanical Engineering Summer Placement – Join Dornan and Gain Real-World Experience

Dornan’s Mechanical Engineering Summer Work Placement Programme offers students the chance to work on live engineering projects under the guidance of experienced professionals. Over the course of three months, you’ll gain hands-on experience with key mechanical systems such as chilled water, ventilation, building management systems (BMS), refrigeration, sprinklers, and more.

This is your opportunity to apply your knowledge in a real construction environment and build valuable industry experience.

Placement Duration

• Start: June 2026

• End: August 2026

• Length: Typically 3 months

What You’ll Be Doing

During your placement, you will assist in:

• Preparing reports, feasibility studies, and capital cost estimates

• Developing project schedules and material take-offs

• Supporting tender documentation preparation and tender analysis

• Managing and updating delivery schedules

• Handling design queries via the RFI (Request for Information) process

• Creating and monitoring project programmes using MS Project

• Producing lookahead programmes and progress reports

• Preparing method statements and risk assessments with the construction team

• Maintaining variation registers

• Preparing test packs for system completion

• Conducting quality control inspections and snagging

• Performing document control and information management

• Supporting the financial monitoring of project contracts

• Coordinating with clients, contractors, and design team members

Who We’re Looking For

• Students currently pursuing a Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering degree

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Enthusiasm for learning and contributing to real projects
