Job description

As a Construction Operations Manager at Siemens Energy in Manchester, you’ll be at the forefront of transforming the renewable energy landscape. Your day will involve managing a portfolio of large electricity transmission infrastructure projects, focusing on Offshore AC grid access, Offshore DC grid access, and HVDC Interconnector businesses.

You’ll support the Responsible Business Manager (RBM) in overseeing contract delivery teams to achieve business results in safety, cost, time, quality, and customer satisfaction. Your role will require constant communication with management, staff, and vendors to ensure efficient operations, while maintaining the highest standards in Environmental Protection, Sustainability, Health & Wellbeing, and Corporate Social Responsibility.

What You’ll Bring

• Leadership and Experience: You’ll bring a natural and inspirational leadership style, with a proven track record in managing electricity transmission construction projects. Your ability to develop and maintain an environment of trust, diversity, and inclusion within your team will be crucial.
• Educational Background: A degree in an engineering-related subject is essential, with a Master’s degree in management being highly desirable. Your educational background will support your strategic and analytical approach to project management.
• Project Management Expertise: Demonstrable evidence of successful project delivery at a portfolio level is required. You’ll have a working knowledge of project management methodologies and practical application in real-world scenarios.
• Commercial Acumen: Your experience with purchasing procedures, negotiating skills, and knowledge of commercial and contractual issues will be vital. You’ll possess excellent financial acumen to manage budgets and drive cost efficiencies.
• Regulatory Knowledge: A strong understanding of current Health & Safety legislation, CDM Regulations, Environmental Regulations, and Risk/Opportunity Management processes is necessary to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
• Technical Proficiency: You’ll be fully conversant in current Transmission & Distribution standards and technologies, with extensive knowledge of HV Substations (Civil, Primary & Secondary Systems).
• Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in negotiation, will be essential for building and maintaining long-term customer relationships and managing stakeholder expectations

How to Make an Impact

• Achieving Business Results: You’ll ensure that business area contracts deliver or exceed budget gross margins, overheads, and EBIT. By advising on variation and claims strategy, you’ll support negotiations and assist project teams in managing commercial risks.
• Driving Performance Improvements: Setting KPIs to monitor and achieve continuous project delivery performance improvements will be a key focus. You’ll actively pursue strategic and operational objectives, identifying and mitigating claims early on.
• Resource and Staff Management: You’ll manage business resource planning for operational staff, developing recruitment plans to meet contract delivery requirements. Assessing and developing staff capabilities will be crucial for succession planning and raising project management skills.
• Enhancing Customer Relations: Building and maintaining long-term customer relationships will be a priority. You’ll ensure customer complaints are addressed promptly and satisfaction levels are monitored and improved to meet KPI compliance.
• Optimizing Processes and Systems: Ensuring compliance with Siemens Energy Health and Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies will be essential. You’ll participate in continuous improvement initiatives, developing standards and quality assurance protocols to enhance organizational capacity.
• Tendering and Supplier Management: Liaising with the tendering department to approve scope, schedule, budget, and resource requirements will be part of your role. You’ll develop supplier relationships with mutual success as the core objective, monitoring third-party services to meet contract requirements.
