You\u2019ll work in a collaborative engineering environment, owning feature development and improving code quality, maintainability, and developer experience in the model stack used across our business. You will collaborate with your colleagues in the Modelling team to define practical methodologies, with your focus being on turning these approaches into robust, well\u2011tested, scalable software.<br \/>\nYou\u2019ll thrive here if you enjoy writing clean, maintainable Python, shaping libraries and packages other teams rely on, and raising engineering standards (TDD, CI\/CD, reviews, readability) across a large, shared codebase.<br \/>\nThe position suits an individual with\u00a0<strong>3+ years of experience in software development\u00a0<\/strong>who is interested in a career applying software engineering techniques to modelling software solutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design, implement, and maintain Python modules\/packages in the modelling codebase; own components over time and steward their quality and usability for other teams.<\/li>\n<li>Translate modelling methods into production\u2011quality code, collaborating with method owners in the Modelling team; ensure implementations are readable, tested, and traceable.<\/li>\n<li>Improve code quality and developer experience by refactoring for clarity, strengthening interfaces and simplifying implementations.<\/li>\n<li>Champion automated testing and TDD; driving the adoption of modern software engineering practices in the model development team.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions<\/li>\n<li>Identifying and addressing architectural bottlenecks and opportunities to improve scalability and developer experience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Skills, Knowledge and Expertise<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Required attributes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Professional Python experience (<strong>3+ years<\/strong>) in a commercial, team\u2011based software environment, delivering components used by other teams\/customers<\/li>\n<li>Strong software engineering fundamentals<\/li>\n<li>Comfortable collaborating with Modelling, Research, and Product teams to implement methods as robust, maintainable code; motivated to raise standards for others<\/li>\n<li>A relevant degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science<\/li>\n<li>An interest in working in the energy\/decarbonization sector<\/li>\n<li>Experience working collaboratively in teams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Desirable attributes:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience building software using Test Driven Development and Continuous Delivery<\/li>\n<li>Experience developing modelling or simulation software, or with mathematical optimisation (LPs\/MIPs) &#8211; particularly in the energy industry<\/li>\n<li>Experience stewarding internal libraries\/SDKs, packaging (pyproject.toml, Poetry\/uv) and dependency management at scale<\/li>\n<li>Experience in managing or mentoring junior colleagues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What we offer<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"benefits-body\" class=\"external-panel__trix-content external-panel__trix-content--colored\">\n<div id=\"External::Careerspage::Renderrichtrixcontent-react-component-f64da7fe-741e-45a6-abc5-74a982f3423d\">\n<div><strong>Some of the benefits we include are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Private Medical Insurance<\/li>\n<li>Dental Insurance<\/li>\n<li>Parental Support<\/li>\n<li>Salary-Exchange Pension<\/li>\n<li>Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)<\/li>\n<li>Local Oxford Discounts<\/li>\n<li>Cycle-to-work Scheme<\/li>\n<li>Flu Jabs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019re looking for a Model Developer to help us build and maintain the Python codebase behind Aurora\u2019s Origin and Chronos modelling software products.
