You\u2019ll guide the delivery of major water and wastewater infrastructure programmes, influence strategic decisions for high\u2011profile UK water clients, and play a pivotal role in embedding best practice across the business. Design Leadership<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead the civil design of municipal water and wastewater projects across the UK, covering feasibility, optioneering, concept, outline and detailed design across major programmes (e.g. AMP8, WINEP, SROs, etc).<\/li>\n<li>Lead and support on the civil aspects of feasibility, optioneering, design and delivery of flood risk and erosion risk management and sustainable drainage systems.<\/li>\n<li>Set and uphold the civil design approach for treatment work: in-house standards (in line with water industry asset standards), checking, and consistency of outputs across projects and teams.<\/li>\n<li>Fulfil Designer duties under CDM 2015, leading design risk management within the civil scope and, where appointed, undertaking Principal Designer responsibilities in support of the Design Manager during the pre-construction phase.<\/li>\n<li>Take ownership of the civil scope within multidisciplinary delivery, driving clear decisions on operability, maintainability, access, and whole-life performance.<\/li>\n<li>Ensuring designs comply with CESWI, UK regulations and client standards; lead design reviews, approve deliverables, and uphold safety, sustainability and BIM requirements throughout the project lifecycle.<\/li>\n<li>Oversee the development of civil calculations, models, drawings and reports, driving efficient material selection and construction methodologies (including offsite fabrication where appropriate), while coordinating closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, buildable solutions within programme and budget constraints.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Client Engagement &amp; Delivery<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Act as a senior client-facing technical lead, running workshops and design reviews, advising clients, and building long-term relationships with regulated water stakeholders.<\/li>\n<li>Provide design assurance and technical support during delivery phases, including reviewing contractor submissions, answering design queries, and supporting handover\/commissioning activities when required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Business Growth &amp; Team Development<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grow the civil capability through business development and work winning: identify opportunities, shape scopes, contribute to bids, and build a healthy forward pipeline.<\/li>\n<li>Help translate the UK water growth strategy into practical actions: target sectors, priority accounts, capability gaps, and delivery plans focused on treatment.<\/li>\n<li>Build the civil arm of the UK water consultancy team through recruitment, mentoring and skills development, including pathways, coaching and technical governance.<\/li>\n<li>Work with the wider business to evolve new and improved service offerings, including sustainability-led and value-focused civil solutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"jobad-qualifications\"><strong>What do we need from you<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong>What do we need from you<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BEng\/MEng (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering.<\/li>\n<li>Registered as a chartered engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional membership (e.g., ICE or similar).<\/li>\n<li>Strong track record in the UK regulated water market, focused on municipal water and\/or wastewater design.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated leadership across the design lifecycle: feasibility\/optioneering, concept, outline and detailed design, plus support through delivery stages as the designer.<\/li>\n<li>Strong capability in civil design tools and digital workflows, such as Civil 3D, industry-standard drainage\/hydraulic modelling software packages, GIS platforms and BIM-enabled delivery environments.<\/li>\n<li>Solid understanding of CDM designer responsibilities and sustainable design principles, with demonstrable experience contributing to low-carbon, practical engineering solutions within regulated infrastructure projects.<\/li>\n<li>Experience supporting projects delivered via frameworks, alliances and\/or D&amp;B models, including design review, technical query response, and design assurance.<\/li>\n<li>Confident client and stakeholder manager;
