We are now seeking a Power Systems Engineer<\/strong> to join one of our UK offices (London, Bicester or Newcastle).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Role Responsibilities<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As a Power\u00a0System\u00a0Engineer at RED Engineering, you will play a crucial role in the design and optimization of power systems within the data\u00a0centre\u00a0industry. Your primary responsibilities will include running computer simulations,\u00a0working with\u00a0design teams, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of power distribution systems. We are particularly interested in candidates with\u00a0experience\u00a0in ETAP, although experience with\u00a0DIgSILENT\u00a0or SKM\u00a0and PSCAD\u00a0will also be considered.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As an Engineer, you will be provided with the\u00a0support,\u00a0training\u00a0and\u00a0mentorship\u00a0required\u00a0to achieve your\u00a0professional registration as a\u00a0Chartered\/Incorporated\u00a0Engineer.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Key Responsibilities:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Simulation Expertise:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
      \n
    • \n
        \n
      • Conduct load flow analysis to ensure\u00a0optimal\u00a0power distribution within data\u00a0centre\u00a0facilities.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Perform short circuit analysis to assess the integrity of the power system under fault conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Coordinate protection systems to enhance the reliability and safety of the power distribution network.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Execute arc flash studies to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with safety standards.<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Conduct earthing studies to design high-level earthing for the LV systems.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        1. Collaborative Design Support:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          • \n
              \n
            • Collaborate closely with the design teams to understand project requirements<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              1. Documentation and Reporting:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                  • Validate\u00a0input data to ensure accuracy and reliability in simulation results.<\/span><\/li>\n
                  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing simulation results, recommendations, and design considerations.<\/span><\/li>\n
                  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation related to power system simulations and design support activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                    1. Continuous Professional Development:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                      • \n
                          \n
                        • Engage with\u00a0the continuous improvement of simulation methodologies and tools within the power systems team<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                          Role Requirements<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

                            \n
                          • Bachelor’s or\u00a0Master’s\u00a0degree in Power Engineering\u00a0or equivalent.<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Experience in power systems engineering, preferably\u00a0with an industry background in\u00a0data centres, oil &\u00a0gas\u00a0or utility.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • \u00a0Working towards MCIBSE\/MIEE or equivalent.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Working towards Chartered Eng status.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Knowledge of\u00a0simulation software, particularly ETAP (preferred),\u00a0DIgSILENT, or SKM<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Understanding of the models of main electrical machines, including but not limited to generators, transformers,\u00a0motors\u00a0and UPS.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Understanding\u00a0in both LV and MV systems, ideally HV up to\u00a033\u00a0kV.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Understanding of\u00a0Load Flow, Short Circuit Analysis, Protection Coordination, Arc Flash, Harmonic Studies, and Underground Cable Sizing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Understanding of\u00a0Transient Stability Studies is desirable.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Understanding of\u00a0Earthing Studies is desirable.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Analytical and problem-solving skills<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Knowledge of MS Office\u00a0applications Word,\u00a0Excel etc.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Ability to use IT based calculation and spreadsheet software<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Good understanding of BS standards<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Ability to prioritise own workload\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Ability to work to deadlines\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Background in consulting or construction preferred.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
                          • Good understanding of international working and business operations of a global consultancy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
