The team plays a cross\u2011functional role across the business.<\/p>\n<p>Your work will directly support performance, safety, regulatory compliance, and the overall maturity of our reactor design \u2014 making this team essential to the success of the SMR programme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Role Summary \u2014 Lead Chemist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a Lead Chemist, you will play a key strategic and technical role in developing, justifying, and integrating water chemistry control across the Rolls\u2011Royce SMR design.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This role is important because you will:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Represent the chemistry discipline to regulators, partners, and potential customers.<\/li>\n<li>Shape the long\u2011term capability, strategy, and technical excellence of the chemistry function.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure our chemistry approach meets the highest standards of performance, safety, and compliance throughout the SMR lifecycle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is a role for someone who wants to combine deep technical expertise with leadership, influence, and broad business impact.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In this role, you will be doing things like:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leading water chemistry control and justification activities across all reactor operating modes and systems.<\/li>\n<li>Acting as a primary technical interface, representing the chemistry discipline with authority and clarity.<\/li>\n<li>Contributing to the SMR safety case, including engagement with the regulator and potential customers.<\/li>\n<li>Coaching and mentoring junior engineers to build technical capability in the team.<\/li>\n<li>Conducting detailed technical reviews to ensure chemistry\u2011related outputs meet quality, accuracy, and compliance requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Driving strategic development of the chemistry team \u2014 identifying opportunities, building networks, and influencing the future direction of the discipline.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, identifying gaps or non\u2011conformances and proposing robust, practical solutions.<\/li>\n<li>Staying connected to external industry communities, ensuring Rolls\u2011Royce SMR remains at the forefront of nuclear chemistry practice.<\/li>\n<li>Owning and managing delivery plans, ensuring work is delivered to cost, schedule, and quality requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Impact You Will Have<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In this role, you will:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Directly influence the safety, operability, and performance of the Rolls\u2011Royce SMR.<\/li>\n<li>Help shape the UK\u2019s future clean\u2011energy landscape.<\/li>\n<li>Build long\u2011term technical capability and excellence within the chemistry discipline.<\/li>\n<li>Represent Rolls\u2011Royce SMR to regulators, customers, and industry experts.<\/li>\n<li>Play a major role in progressing our SMR design through GDA Step 3 and beyond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is an opportunity to deliver work with real purpose \u2014 improving energy security, reducing global carbon emissions, and advancing world\u2011leading nuclear technology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential Qualifications &amp; Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We will need you to bring:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A degree (or equivalent) in chemistry or a closely related discipline.<\/li>\n<li>Strong, practical experience in applied chemistry.<\/li>\n<li>Experience working in the nuclear, power generation, or other highly regulated industries.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of PWR plant behaviour, ALARP principles and regulatory expectations (highly beneficial).<\/li>\n<li>Ability to interpret chemistry data, predict trends, and assess implications for safety and operability.<\/li>\n<li>Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information to varied audiences.<\/li>\n<li>Strong collaboration skills \u2014 able to build relationships across multidisciplinary teams and external organisations.<\/li>\n<li>Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting others in a technical environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Location &amp; Ways of Working<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We offer full flexibility across our UK offices in Derby, Warrington or Manchester, with hybrid working available. Typical expectations are around two days per week in the office, although this may vary depending on individual needs and team activities. We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pay and Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>We anticipate paying a salary of between \u00a360,000-\u00a378,750 \u00a0plus:-<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bonus &#8211; Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%<\/li>\n<li>Benefits Allowance &#8211; \u00a32200, enabling you to create a bespoke package<\/li>\n<li>Pension &#8211; 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.<\/li>\n<li>Holidays &#8211;
