Senior Electrical Engineer – Substation Design (UK Wide) NOWOŚĆ

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team. The department is responsible for project management, detailed design, and Owners’ Engineer roles for electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltages—both in the UK and internationally.

Our work focuses on large-scale grid infrastructure, grid connections, and private networks, with opportunities to contribute to some of the most significant energy projects worldwide. One of the key initiatives you’ll be part of is the UK National Grid’s Great Grid Partnership – a £9bn enterprise program connecting clean energy to homes and businesses across England and Wales.

This is an exciting time to join a growing and collaborative team that plays a vital role in shaping the future of sustainable energy infrastructure.

Here’s what you’ll do:

• Develop primary plant layouts for HV substations.
• Prepare equipment specifications for HV plant and associated systems.
• Provide engineering design input to major infrastructure projects.
• Act as Owners’ Engineer on HV substation, cable, and overhead line (OHL) projects.
• Deliver HV design input for renewable energy projects, including battery storage, solar, hydro, and wind generation.
• Provide professional services to clients in the UK, Ireland, and overseas.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Proven experience in High Voltage design projects.
• Background in working with major utilities or developers.
• Hands-on experience as a designer or project engineer.
• Strong knowledge of substation control systems, transformers, GIS, and AIS switchgear.
• Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects and manage priorities.
• Excellent technical report writing skills.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written).
• Full driving license and access to a personal vehicle (site visits may be required).

Desirable skills & experience:

• Experience working on multi-discipline engineering projects.
• Chartered Engineer status or working toward accreditation.
• Previous consultancy experience.
• Experience in reviewing detailed designs and witnessing construction site activities.
