Grid connection has become a critical area where utility providers, private investors, and developers seek specialised support across all stages of a project’s lifecycle — from siting and feasibility, through commissioning, to operational compliance monitoring.

Our team is actively involved in both the development and construction phases of utility-scale renewable energy projects throughout the UK and Ireland, providing technical expertise that drives the transition to a sustainable energy future.

Here’s what you’ll do:

• Undertake detailed power system and grid code compliance studies using tools such as PowerFactory, PSCAD, and PSS/E.
• Conduct grid connection due diligence, including grid prospecting, connection optioneering, risk assessments, and capacity or constraint analysis.
• Perform power system studies for industrial and infrastructure projects (e.g., water treatment plants).
• Support electrical design delivery through power system analysis and studies.
• Lead and manage medium to large-scale projects and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers and support their professional development.
• Contribute to business process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality.
• Prepare technical proposals and bids for new opportunities.
• Liaise with OEMs and clients to ensure strong technical outcomes and alignment with project objectives.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

• Proven professional experience in Engineering Design Consultancy, OEM, or Utility Network Planning and Connections.
• Strong understanding of transmission and distribution planning and customer connection processes for both regulated and industrial networks.
• In-depth knowledge of UK technical standards (UK Grid Code, G99, G5/5, P28) and connection requirements for new generators and loads.
• Familiarity with the Ireland Grid Code is advantageous.
• Proficiency in PSCAD, PowerFactory, and Python scripting.
• Prior experience with PSSE and ETAP software is desirable.
• Solid understanding of control and protection principles for high-voltage substation equipment, transmission lines, transformers, and reactive components.
• Basic knowledge of power electronics and control systems related to renewable technologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable experience:

• Proven experience conducting and reviewing detailed compliance studies (steady state, harmonic/power quality, dynamic, and SSO).
• Familiarity with the NESO / DNO / TO review process for compliance study submissions, demonstrating strong power systems theory knowledge.
