BAM Construction is seeking a Senior Design Manager to join our London Region team. With a proven track record in managing all design aspects from tender through to completion, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring project success. Making Possible – Key Responsibilities

• Manage the design process to deliver technically compliant, cost-efficient, and fully coordinated design packages throughout pre-construction and delivery stages.
• Lead and manage the digital and sustainability requirements of the project.
• Liaise with subcontractors, design teams, and external consultants, fostering collaboration to produce design information that meets client requirements and complies with all regulations.
• Oversee multiple projects and contract types, managing the release, production, and approval of technical drawings.
• Chair design workshops, coordinate complex design packages, and validate design details to add value throughout construction.
• Provide technical guidance to clients and project teams, identifying and mitigating design and delivery risks.
• Demonstrate strong technical competence across Architecture, Structures, and MEPH disciplines.
• Assist in the selection and scoping of subcontractors for Contractor Design Portions and working drawings.
• Develop, manage, and report on the design programme in coordination with all parties.
• Prepare regular internal and external reports on design progress.

Your Team

You will report directly to the Regional Design Manager and work flexibly across home, office (London), and site locations, supported by BAM’s flexible working policy.

What You Bring to the Role

• Experience in Cut and Carve projects (advantageous).
• A collaborative and proactive approach with strong leadership skills.
• Ability to listen, engage, and motivate team members while making sound decisions.
• Continuous learner with a desire to share knowledge and drive improvement.
• Strong understanding of design and construction processes and their interfaces.
• Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM Level 2 requirements.
• Passion for driving improvement through digital construction and innovation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and formal reporting.
• Qualifications:
  • GCSEs + HNC in Building Studies, or
  • Degree in Design Management or Architecture.
• Proficiency with EDMS platforms, particularly BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
• Ability to review design for technical completeness and buildability, develop consultant scopes, and lead value engineering initiatives.
