Reporting to the Contracts Manager, the Design Manager/Coordinator will play a central role in supporting and overseeing the design and coordination aspects of large-scale construction projects. The ideal candidate will bring both architectural expertise and on-site construction experience to ensure design intent is maintained throughout project delivery.

As a member of the project management team, you will also have the opportunity to influence and strengthen the safety culture onsite. Through personal commitment, clear communication, and proactive leadership, you will help foster an environment where safety is a shared value, integrated into every stage of the construction process.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Architectural qualification and professional background
• 5–10 years of experience in a similar role within design or construction
• Proven design and construction site experience
• Strong communication, leadership, and coordination skills
• Good understanding of commercial and contractual awareness
• Proficient planning and programme management capabilities
• Broad knowledge of the construction industry across all disciplines, including technical design and construction details
• Familiarity with building regulations (BCAR, TGD), environmental, health, and safety standards
• Strong negotiation and presentation skills
• Commitment to promoting a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as the main liaison between Architects, Structural Engineers, and Service Engineers, ensuring clear communication and coordination across all disciplines
• Communicate any design developments to the Contracts Manager (CM) and Quantity Surveyor (QS) teams, addressing potential financial implications
• Maintain commercial and contractual awareness to support project objectives
• Lead workshop meetings with specialist subcontractors to align technical and design requirements
• Coordinate and track design and material submittals, ensuring timely Client Representative review and approval
• Identify and resolve design risks or potential issues in collaboration with the Design Team before they impact project delivery
• Develop and maintain look-ahead plans to manage design and construction milestones effectively
• Plan and coordinate with Project Managers (PM) and Site Managers (SM) to ensure all stakeholders remain aligned
• Demonstrate strong planning and programming skills to meet key project timelines
• Ensure ongoing compliance with building, safety, and environmental regulations
• Attend site meetings, report on progress, and ensure effective communication between site and design teams
• Support the implementation of health and safety policies by modelling safe behaviour, prioritising safety over productivity, and ensuring adequate training and resources for all workers
• Promote open communication, recognise and reward safe practices, and participate in regular safety inspections
