Senior Automation Engineer – Damen Naval

As the Senior Automation Engineer at Damen Naval, you will play a major role in ensuring that state-of-the-art naval vessels are built and commissioned with fully operational automated systems, compliant with strict regulations and requirements. You will develop the automation concept for complex processes, covering a wide range of systems onboard the vessel.

Depending on the vessel’s configuration, your automation design could encompass a host of strategic defensive and deterrent systems. Your designs will feature state-of-the-art automation functionality, enabling the crew to control and monitor all shipboard systems efficiently.

You will work according to the V-model in our 3DExperience engineering environment, ensuring that both basic and detailed designs are thoroughly reviewed, tested, and verified during the design and build phases. The culmination of your work is the launch of a new naval vessel, ready to defend freedom worldwide.

Key Accountabilities

• Develop functional descriptions and other basic engineering documents and drawings for the ship’s automated processes.
• Develop and maintain specification documents for all automation components and installation processes.
• Write detailed test and validation plans to ensure compliance with Class regulations and customer requirements during virtual testing (simulations) and real-world testing (FAT, HAT, SAT).
• Manage vendors and subcontractors, ensuring timely contribution to the project.
• Review vendors’ and subcontractors’ designs and integrate them into the vessel’s automation design.
• Develop and describe standards and working methods for detailed engineering and commissioning.
• Support proposal stages by developing conceptual designs of system automation.
• Provide technical support and commissioning activities for projects under contract.

Skills & Experience

• 5+ years’ experience in designing and installing complex automation systems (PLC/SCADA), preferably in maritime, offshore, or aeronautical installations.
• Professional experience in complex, multidisciplinary projects involving multiple suppliers and subcontractors.
• Experience in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) environments following the V-model.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Technical Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Excellent references; security screening is required.
• Permanent EU citizenship and passport are mandatory. Candidates with EU work visa or dual EU/non-EU nationality are not eligible due to the military nature of these projects.
