Energy Revenue & Cost Forecasting Analyst

Why This Role Matters:

As part of the Investments Team and reporting to the Head of Commercialisation & Energy Portfolio, you’ll contribute to the evolution of our capability in energy revenue and cost forecasting. Initially, the focus will be on sourcing, analyzing, and challenging third-party forecasting providers. Over time, this capability is expected to expand to include developing our own input assumptions for external forecasts and potentially building an in-house modelling capability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead relationship management with third-party forecast and market data providers, including procurement responsibilities.
• Challenge third-party forecast providers on their outputs, identifying and addressing weaknesses.
• Critically assess:
  • Input assumptions.
  • Consistency of methodology and assumptions across different forecasts.
  • Consistency of assumptions within individual forecasts.
• Improve market awareness within stakeholder groups by providing market updates and commentary.
• Drive the evolution of team capability from reliance on third-party providers to developing an in-house modelling capability.
• Support the production of key inputs for JERA Nex bp investment decisions, covering:
  • Financial assumptions (interest rates, FX, etc.).
  • Energy market curves (gas, baseload power, offshore wind capture rate).
  • Capacity build-out (offshore wind, other generation technologies, storage capacity, demand capacity).
• Evaluate input from regional commercialisation leads and use sound judgment to challenge or integrate market-facing insights into forecasting.

Job Requirements:

• Degree in a quantitative discipline, preferably economics or engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in energy markets within consulting, utilities, or investment sectors, with a focus on renewable energy.
• Strong problem-solving, quantitative, and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Proficiency in analytical and data manipulation tools such as Excel, SQL, and Python.
• Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics into key insights.
• Demonstrated ability to evolve team capabilities and develop best practices proactively.
• Experience gained within a top-tier energy market consultancy is an advantage.
• Intellectual curiosity and confidence to challenge assumptions and third-party curve providers on their outputs.
